Welcome

It sounds strange, but on our blue planet, whose surface is covered with over seventy percent water, a drinking water shortage prevails. That's because only 2.5 percent of that water is fresh and most of them are also made of ice. Altogether, only 0.3 percent available for drinking water, and that little bit of water gets dirty quickly now. There is only one thing to sit on to save mankind from a catastrophe that the oil shortage can do fade: tapping the other 97.5 percent water, either: the desalination of seawater.

But unfortunately the Pacific Ocean drives a massive amount of plastic waste. Better known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Captain Charles Moore discovered this when he was run by a gyre. This is a place where different currents in the ocean in a giant circular motion come together. The North Pacific Gyre is about 34 million square kilometers, and is the largest waste pit of the world. Just the floating plastic covers an area twice the United States. It has a weight of 44 million pounds.

Death animals
Large pieces of plastic are becoming smaller and thus more difficult to clean. Many animals die from eating the plastic. Fish, birds and other (sea)-animals such as turtles, seals and lobsters can not distinguish between food and debris, and eat so many of these pieces of plastic. They die of malnutrition because the plastic in the stomach hunger disappear, or they suffocate it.

In 2009 a scientific expedition that discovered in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Florida, a huge floating plastic carpet.

The plastic mass composed largely of plastic that in one way or another, used for the capture, packaging, preservation and consumption of food. These include:
- Fishing nets;
- Plastic bags;
- Cups, plates, stirrers and cutlery; - Packaging materials;
- Water bottles;
- Soda bottles;
- Bottle caps;
- Insulation;
- Sandwich bags.

And many more of waste (fisheries)-ships, oil rigs and the country came.

Because nobody feels responsible there is no action to put an end to it. This is costly and time, if at all possible. It is important to at least ensure that nothing is added. But governments, industry and consumers blame each other.

Stichting Aquarius
So we come into action. So we organize a number of clean water events to raise awareness for clean water. We make each year on 22 March (World Water Day), a river clean, we parade on 21 June (Midsummer) each year as mermaids to raise awareness for clean (sea) water and swimming and rowing us around various islands in the Netherlands.

With all these events we ask for clean water each year in national and international attention for clean water. As you can see in the film Clean Rotterdam. This news item on TV about Rotterdam Addressing Clean is even on the official UN World Water Day website and thus inspires organizations, governments, citizens, businesses, etc worldwide.

Join or support us, if clean water is important for you too.
